Carnival Museum, Cultural museum in Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo, Uruguay
The Carnival Museum exhibits costumes, masks, drums, photographs, and recordings documenting the evolution of Montevideo's carnival celebrations through interactive displays.
The museum, established in 2006, preserves artifacts from over a century of carnival celebrations that reflect the influences of European and African traditions.
Exhibits present traditional candombe rhythms, murgas musical groups, and comparsas performances that form the foundation of Uruguayan carnival expressions.
Located at Rambla 25 de Agosto 218, the museum welcomes visitors from Wednesday to Sunday between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM with free entry for children under 12.
The museum features a courtyard where performers present live shows during summer months, allowing visitors to experience carnival traditions firsthand.
