Edificio Mercosur, Greek Revival headquarters in Montevideo, Uruguay
The Edificio Mercosur contains prominent columns across its facade and stands near Parque Rodo, facing the waterfront of Montevideo.
Constructed in 1909 as Parque Hotel by architect Pierre Lorenzi, the building underwent significant expansions in 1938 and 1960 to accommodate new functions.
The building serves as the central office for Mercosur, the South American trade organization that facilitates economic cooperation between member nations.
The Communication and Information Unit organizes guided tours for institutions and academic groups interested in learning about the organization's activities.
Room 116 marks the location where Mexican poet Amado Nervo spent his final moments in 1926 during his stay at the former hotel.
