Building London Paris, Building in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Building London Paris is an eclectic architectural structure located on 18 de Julio Avenue in Montevideo, combining different styles in its design. Its distinctive zinc cupola topped with an Atlas figure sits above office spaces and retail shops spread across multiple floors.
The building was constructed between 1905 and 1908 and housed the first department store in Uruguay under the London Paris name. This store operated successfully until 1966 before closing, bringing European retail concepts to the country.
The building sits at the intersection of 18 de Julio Avenue and Rio Negro, making it easy to locate and view from the street. You can see the full exterior including the distinctive cupola and clock faces from the surrounding sidewalk.
The building features three clock faces that are all controlled by a single central mechanism, allowing them to display the same time simultaneously. The cupola above remains unreachable to visitors since no internal stairs lead to it.
