Capital Department, Administrative division in Córdoba Province, Argentina
The Capital Department spans 562 square kilometers of terrain at 409 meters elevation, containing both urban areas and natural landscapes within its boundaries.
Established in 1868, the department grew around the city of Córdoba, which was founded in 1573 by Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera as a Spanish colonial settlement.
The National University of Córdoba, founded in 1613, stands as the oldest university in Argentina, earning the department its nickname 'La Docta'.
The department maintains an extensive public transportation network connecting neighborhoods through bus routes, with the international airport serving domestic and global destinations.
The Jesuit Block, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, preserves multiple 17th-century buildings including the Colegio Nacional de Monserrat.
