Córdoba Cabildo, Colonial government building in Córdoba, Argentina
Córdoba Cabildo is a colonial government building featuring fifteen archways at ground level and Ionic columns on the upper level facing Plaza San Martín. The interior contains two courtyards with galleries connected by a main ceremonial staircase.
Construction began in 1588 with basic mud walls and underwent several transformations until Governor Sobremonte commissioned engineer Juan Manuel López in 1784 for its completion. This final phase brought about the building's current architectural form.
The building now houses the City Museum, displaying archaeological artifacts and hosting regular exhibitions of local art, music, and theatrical performances.
The building contains a tourist information office, city store, and multiple exhibition spaces across two floors. Access between levels is provided by the main staircase in the center.
The building stands apart from other Spanish American cabildos because its archways extend only across the ground floor, with the upper level projecting forward above them. This unusual arrangement creates a distinctive visual balance between the two floors.
