Teatro del Libertador General San Martín

The Teatro del Libertador General San Martín is an Italianate opera house featuring a horseshoe-shaped concert hall that spans five levels. The main auditorium holds about 1000 spectators beneath ornamental European sculptures and columns, while two additional smaller halls serve for alternative programming.

Architect Francesco Tamburini designed the building in 1887 at the request of Provincial Justice Minister Ramón J. Cárcano to provide the city with a concert venue. This construction addressed Córdoba's growing need for a proper space to host artistic performances.

The venue hosts the province's official orchestral and ballet companies, which perform regularly for local audiences. It functions as a cultural center where these resident ensembles present their work throughout the year.

The venue offers different spaces for various types of events and audience sizes, ranging from major productions to smaller seminars. It is helpful to check beforehand which hall is hosting your chosen event, as each provides a different experience.

The building retains its original stage machinery in working condition, a feature rarely encountered in historical theaters around the world. These functioning mechanisms allow technicians today to operate the same mechanical systems that managed productions more than 130 years ago.
