Museo Etnográfico y Colonial Juan de Garay, Ethnographic and colonial museum in Santa Fe, Argentina.
The Museo Etnografico y Colonial Juan de Garay is a museum housed in a neocolonial building on 25 de Mayo Street in southern Santa Fe. The building contains four thematic sections with archaeological finds, colonial documents, and crafted objects from the region.
The museum was founded in 1941 and began archaeological excavations in 1949 at the Santa Fe La Vieja site. These research efforts helped uncover the early history of the region and its inhabitants.
The collections show objects from indigenous peoples of the Paraná region and Spanish colonial items that reflect how different cultures coexisted together. Visitors see here how these people lived and what crafting techniques they used.
The museum is located beside the San Francisco Church in the southern part of the city and is easy to reach on foot. Plan for a few hours to explore all four sections and view the objects at a comfortable pace.
The museum preserves the will of Doña Jerónima de Contreras, a fascinating document from the colonial period. This personal document offers insight into the life and property of a woman from that era.
