Parque nacional Caazapá

Parque nacional Caazapá covers diverse ecosystems comprising dense forests, grasslands, and natural springs throughout the Caazapá Department. The park features varied habitats and natural features that visitors can explore across its terrain.

The protected area was established as a national park in 1976 and received its current name in 2015 following an earlier designation. This change reflected the country's administrative review of its protected spaces.

The name comes from the Guaraní term Ka'aguy jehasapa, meaning 'after the forest', which reflects the indigenous heritage rooted in this region. This connection to the land and its original inhabitants remains visible throughout the area.

The park lies several hundred kilometers east of Asunción and is accessible via various trails where visitors can hike and observe birds. Access to these routes requires basic preparation, and the better time to explore is during drier months.

A rock spring called Ykua Bolaños maintains its water flow even during extended dry periods when many other water sources dry up. This feature makes the location valuable for hikers needing water and reveals interesting geological properties of the area.
