Saltos del Monday, Nature reserve and waterfall in Presidente Franco District, Paraguay.
Saltos del Monday are waterfalls in eastern Paraguay that cascade in three main drops totaling 45 meters high and spread approximately 120 meters wide across the Monday River. The park grounds feature several viewing platforms and are used by the Escuela Deportiva Raider Guaraní for water sports activities.
The falls served as an important landmark for Guaraní communities when traveling through the region before European settlement arrived. The natural formation was woven into their travel routes and regional knowledge for many generations.
The name Monday comes from the Guaraní language and means "robbed river," reflecting how indigenous peoples understood this natural formation. The falls hold significance for local communities as a place deeply connected to nature and ancestral knowledge.
The park has multiple walkways and platforms that provide safe access to different viewpoints of the falls. It is wise to wear comfortable shoes and be aware of wet surfaces on the viewing areas, particularly if you plan to explore water sports activities.
The park protects one of the last remaining sections of Atlantic forest from the Alto Paraná region on the western side of the Paraná River. This forest provides shelter for animal species that are difficult to find elsewhere in the region.
