Buddhist Temple of Foz do Iguaçu, Buddhist temple in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil
The Buddhist Temple of Foz do Iguaçu is a religious site built in a Chinese architectural style, set on elevated ground in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. It is organized across two levels, with interior spaces for worship and open outdoor areas featuring Buddha statues.
The temple was completed in 1996, built in response to the growth of the Chinese immigrant community in the border area around Foz do Iguaçu. It was one of the first organized Buddhist sites in this part of Brazil.
The temple was built by the Chinese Buddhist community that settled in the Foz do Iguaçu region, and it reflects their religious life. Visitors can notice red ornamentation, inscriptions, and incense, which point to an active devotional practice still happening here.
The site sits on a hill, so wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to move between the two levels at a relaxed pace. Photography is restricted in some interior spaces, so check the signs as you enter each area.
From the temple's elevated grounds, on a clear day, you can see the Brazilian city on one side and Ciudad del Este in Paraguay on the other. This makes it one of the few places where three countries come into view from a single spot.
