Vapor Cué National Park, National park in Cordillera Department, Paraguay
Vapor Cué National Park is a protected area along the Yhaguy River in Cordillera Department. The site contains two preserved metal ship hulls from the 19th century that sit in and around the riverbed.
The park's ships sought shelter in the river during a 19th-century conflict. They remained where they were left and eventually became historical monuments preserved for public access.
The park preserves remains of Paraguayan warships that tell the story of a crucial moment in the nation's defense. Visitors can see how these vessels still stand as symbols of past military determination along the riverbank.
The site can be reached by paved road from the capital, making it fairly accessible for day trips. The grounds are open to visitors year-round, though rainy months may affect walking conditions around the vessels.
To recover the wrecked ships, workers dug an auxiliary canal that temporarily diverted the river's flow. This engineering effort allowed them to pull the vessels from the water and display them on dry land.
