Mirador Bella Vista, Scenic viewpoint in San Bernardino, Paraguay
The observation deck sits at the highest point of San Bernardino, providing views across Lake Ypacaraí and the forested hills of the region, with seating areas and rest spots positioned along the various platforms for visitors.
German and Swiss settlers established the viewpoint in the late 19th century after founding San Bernardino as a settlement in 1881, using elevated terrain for recreation and orientation purposes in the new colony.
A white sculpture of Our Lady of Aparecida, created in 1994 by artists Roberto and Patricia Ayala, marks the summit and serves as a religious reference point for the San Bernardino community and visitors throughout the year.
Two access points lead to the viewpoint: stairs next to the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción parish and a zigzag ramp at Luis F. Vaché Avenue. Early morning provides the best visibility before afternoon haze develops over the lake area.
The stairway displays indigenous Guaraní patterns and murals depicting national motifs alongside representations of Paraguayan wildlife, including native bird species and mammals that inhabit the forests of the Cordillera region.
