Casa da Feitoria Velha - Atual Museu do Imigrante

Casa da Feitoria Velha is a museum in São Leopoldo housed in a building that blends Portuguese architectural features with Bavarian design elements. Inside, it displays tools, personal belongings, and historical photographs that reflect the lives of the region's early inhabitants.

The building was founded in 1788 as a royal hemp factory and later served starting in 1824 as temporary shelter for German immigrants arriving from Hamburg. This transformation marked the beginning of a large migration wave that would shape the region.

The museum documents the experiences of German immigrants through personal objects, letters, and photographs from the 1800s. Visitors can see belongings that families brought when they arrived and how they established themselves in this new region.

The museum is located about two kilometers from central São Leopoldo along Avenida Imperatriz Leopoldina. It helps to check opening hours beforehand, as the museum is particularly accessible for school groups.

Near the museum runs an old ox cart trail that once connected Lomba Grande with São Leopoldo's markets. This historic path is a little-known trace of the region's early trade network.
