Fazenda Velha, Colonial farmhouse museum in Telêmaco Borba, Brazil
Fazenda Velha is a former plantation with a large manor house in Telêmaco Borba, built using traditional rammed earth techniques and Portuguese colonial architecture. The building contains multiple rooms and outbuildings that document the daily life of an agricultural settlement from that period.
The manor house dates from the 18th century and served as the administrative center of Monte Alegre Farm before the Klabin family acquired the property in 1934. Under new ownership, the use and purpose of the building changed, leading to adaptations of its structure.
The property reflects how Portuguese settlers shaped the land and the importance farming held in shaping the Paraná region. Visitors can observe how daily work on a colonial plantation was organized and what objects were used for these tasks.
To visit the buildings, an appointment must be arranged through the Klabin company, as guided tours are required. It is advisable to plan ahead and inquire about available times for a tour.
The rammed earth walls of the building are original and still intact, while a front porch was added later. This addition shows how owners adapted the structure to their needs without altering its core substance.
