Complexo da Estação Ferroviária de Santos

The Complexo da Estação Ferroviária de Santos is a large complex of historic station buildings in the Valongo neighborhood. It includes the main hall, warehouses for imports and exports, and other structures built from brick, iron, and glass with solid construction and large windows.

The complex was built in the late 1800s as the first railway line in São Paulo, connecting the coastal city to inland areas. This connection helped Santos grow into an important export hub for coffee and other products.

The complex shows how the station shaped daily life in Santos and drew people from different walks of life. The Valongo area developed as a busy place where workers, travelers, and merchants gathered, and local businesses took root.

The site is walkable on foot and displays old tracks, platforms, and preserved walls that show its historical context. Wear comfortable shoes since the ground is uneven and exploring may take several hours.

Today, part of the complex houses the Pelé Museum, where visitors can learn about the famous football player. There is also the Estação Bistrô restaurant, where people can dine in a historic setting.
