Taboão da Serra is a municipality in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region in the state of São Paulo. The city covers a small area and borders directly on neighboring municipalities with no visible break in the built environment.
The municipality was founded in 1959 and developed rapidly from a settlement into an industrial hub. Over the decades, the population grew sharply and transformed the area into a densely populated residential zone within the orbit of São Paulo.
The city takes its name from a traditional wooden washboard once used in the region. Today, well-kept squares and residential neighborhoods shape the daily life of residents who work and live in a space tightly woven with São Paulo.
