Ponte Governador Orestes Quércia, Cable-stayed bridge in São Paulo, Brazil.
The Ponte Governador Orestes Quércia is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Tietê River and joining the Bom Retiro and Santana neighborhoods. It has a single deck supported by steel cables and features three separate directional lanes for traffic flow.
Construction began in 2010 and the bridge opened to traffic on July 27, 2011, following a nine-month build period. Steel cables coated with sun-resistant polyethylene protect the structure from weathering and degradation.
The bridge takes its name from a former state governor, following Brazilian tradition of naming infrastructure after political figures. This naming connects the structure to local history and the people who shaped the region.
The bridge sits on Marginal Tietê Avenue and serves as a primary traffic route between central and northern São Paulo. Its position and design help manage traffic flow efficiently for commuters and local drivers in this region.
This is only the second cable-stayed bridge in São Paulo, featuring a post-contemporary architectural design. The innovative cable system and construction approach make it a noteworthy example of modern transportation infrastructure in the city.
