Casa das Rosas, Literature museum on Paulista Avenue, São Paulo, Brazil
Casa das Rosas is a literature museum in a mansion on Paulista Avenue in São Paulo. The facade displays decorated windows, stone elements, and sculptures, while the garden contains different rose species.
Felisberto Ranzini designed the building in 1935 for a coffee baron family. It remains one of the few residential houses from that era still standing on Paulista Avenue.
The center takes its name from the roses in the garden and now serves as a venue for readings and exhibitions. Visitors can browse the library holding works by poet Haroldo de Campos and attend literary events.
The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday and admission is free. The garden offers a quiet moment among the high-rises of Paulista Avenue.
The 2023 restoration brought modern facilities into the building without altering the original gargoyles and metal ornaments. These details from the 1930s remain visible on the facade and roof.
