Saco da Velha

Saco da Velha is a compact sandy beach in Paraty bordered by Atlantic forest vegetation, with stones scattered along the shore creating natural shade spots. The cove forms a sheltered small coastal area where the water remains clear near the rocky formations.

The beach has remained untouched by modern development since the colonial period when Paraty functioned as a major port city. This isolation has preserved the cove in its original state through the centuries.

A small beachfront establishment run by locals serves regional dishes and drinks, keeping alive the traditions of coastal living and fishing that shaped this area.

Reaching this beach requires taking a boat, with schooner tours departing regularly from Paraty's main pier throughout the day. Bring water and sun protection since the cove has limited facilities and supplies.

A hidden grotto becomes accessible during low tide, revealing natural rock formations along the coast that few visitors discover. This cave is often overlooked because it can only be fully explored during specific tidal phases.
