Praia Grande

Praia Grande is a beach north of Paraty with dark sand stretching along the coast and bordered by thick Atlantic forest vegetation. The shoreline forms a natural cove with calm waters and rocky outcrops that punctuate the sandy edge.

This beach was part of an ancient trade route that Portuguese merchants used during colonial times to ship goods between Rio and São Paulo. This maritime link contributed to Paraty's development as a major port town.

Fishermen here follow age-old practices to supply local restaurants with their daily catch. The early morning hours at the shore show a traditional way of life that has shaped this coastal community for generations.

The beach is accessible via the Rio-Santos highway with clear signage directing to a parking area near the village pier. Sturdy footwear helps, as the shore has rocky sections and morning hours offer the calmest conditions.

A short walking trail at the northern end connects this beach to Prainha, offering elevated views of both coves. The link is easy to reach on foot and reveals the variety of the coastline in this area.
