Kupapa Unsaba, Candomblé terreiro in Anchieta, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The Kupapa Unsaba terreiro occupies 5,000 square meters of land, maintaining dedicated spaces for religious ceremonies and community gatherings in Rio de Janeiro.
João Correia de Mello, known as João Lessengue, established this terreiro in the 1940s after relocating from Salvador, bringing essential Candomblé traditions to Rio de Janeiro.
The terreiro preserves Bantu traditions through ceremonies conducted in the Kimbundu language, maintaining direct connections to African spiritual practices and rituals.
Under the current leadership of Mameto Mabeji, the terreiro continues regular religious services and welcomes community members for traditional ceremonies throughout the year.
In 2005, the terreiro produced 'Cantigas de Angola,' a musical recording that documents traditional Bantu songs and preserves oral traditions for future generations.
