Copacabana Stadium, Olympic beach stadium in Copacabana, Brazil.
Copacabana Stadium was a temporary venue built directly on the beach for volleyball competitions. The complex featured a main court with seating for spectators and additional practice areas arranged across the sandy space.
The stadium was first built in 2007 to host the Pan American Games, and then reconstructed for the 2016 Olympics. After the Games ended, the entire structure was dismantled and the beach was restored to its original state.
The venue became a gathering point where locals and visitors watched world-class athletes compete on sand that was otherwise used for swimming and relaxation. Beach volleyball matches drew crowds who experienced a blend of tourism, local beach culture, and international sport in one location.
The venue is directly on the beach, so comfortable footwear or walking barefoot is practical. Bring sun protection on hot days since there is little natural shade in the open sandy area.
The entire structure existed for only a few weeks and was completely removed after the Games, leaving no visible remains on the beach today. This temporary nature made it a fleeting moment in the beach's history that came and went with the event.
