Resende, Industrial municipality in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Resende is an industrial municipality in Rio de Janeiro state that spreads across eastern inland terrain and sits below the forested slopes of Agulhas Negras. The town follows the course of the Paraíba do Sul river, whose banks are partly built up and partly lined with low hills.
The settlement was founded in 1744 under the name Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Campo Alegre da Paraíba Nova. The current name was officially adopted in 1801.
The name of this municipality honors a prominent figure from the early 19th century and reflects its administrative roots. Visitors notice how industrial work and military training shape daily routines, while riverside parks offer spaces where locals gather for walks and weekend leisure.
Most visitors arrive via the Presidente Dutra highway, which connects the town with Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. A smaller regional airport provides additional connections for local traffic.
The Teatro da Academia is a large theater building with room for several thousand spectators, opening for special occasions and performances. The military training facility within the municipality ranks among the largest installations of its kind worldwide.
