Church of Our Lady of Lapa dos Mercadores

The church displays elaborate marble decorations, gilded altars, and religious artworks throughout its interior spaces and main chapel.

Established in 1743 by local merchants, the church became a central place of worship for the trading community in colonial Rio de Janeiro.

The church maintains traditional Catholic ceremonies while serving as a venue for smaller weddings and religious celebrations in the community.

Located at Rua do Ouvidor 35 in Centro, the church reopened in June 2023 after extensive restoration work including repairs to its bells and clock.

The marble statue of Our Lady of Faith on the dome survived the Navy Revolt of 1893 with minimal damage despite significant impacts to the building.
