Casa França-Brasil is a neoclassical mansion designed by Grandjean de Montigny, with a cross-shaped hall covered by barrel vaults and a central dome with a lantern. Its roof rests on twenty-four Doric columns clad in marble-painted wood. The main facade has three arched doors reached by stairs, and the side facades each have a central door flanked by five large windows.
The building was designed in 1819 by French architect Grandjean de Montigny and first served as the city's Commercial Square. It later became Rio's customs house before being converted into a cultural center.
The center hosts rotating contemporary art shows, theater performances, and music concerts featuring both local and international artists. These events use the historic rooms and create an active cultural presence in the downtown area.
