Complexo Swift de Educação e Cultura, Industrial architectural ensemble near Parque da Represa, São José do Rio Preto, Brazil
Complexo Swift is an industrial facility with three main buildings in British Manchesterian style located on Avenida Duque de Caxias. The structures display characteristic features of early twentieth-century factory architecture with brick facades and functional design elements.
Swift Company founded this seed oil processing plant in 1942, transforming cotton seeds, peanuts, and sesame into refined oils. Operations continued for nearly three decades before the factory closed in 1969.
The Paulo Moura stage is now the heart of the complex, hosting performances and cultural events for visitors and locals alike. This space has become central to the city's artistic life and community gatherings.
The site is centrally located and easily accessible by public transportation or car. Visitors should check ahead for scheduled cultural events as these may affect availability and access to different areas.
The factory produced cooking oils under the brands 'A Dona' and 'A Patroa', which became everyday products in Brazilian households. These names remain embedded in the memory of older generations who used them regularly.
