The Regional Museum of São João del Rei occupies a three-story mansion with baroque, neoclassical, and rococo architectural elements in the main square.
Built in 1859, the building belonged to Commander João Antônio da Silva Mourão during the last gold cycle and was converted into a museum in 1963.
The museum contains collections from the 17th to 20th centuries, showcasing furniture, musical instruments, paintings, and religious artifacts from colonial life.
Located at Rua Marechal Deodoro 12 in downtown São João del Rei, the museum currently undergoes renovations to improve its facilities and facade.
The lower floors display the original grocery store setup of the Mourão family, presenting authentic commercial items from the colonial period.
