The School of Architecture operates in a modernist building designed by Shakespeare Gomes in the Savassi neighborhood, featuring specialized facilities for architectural education.
Established in 1930, it became the first architecture school in South America to function independently from traditional polytechnic, fine arts, and philosophy schools.
The institution holds recognition as a cultural heritage site by the Municipal Government of Belo Horizonte since June 23, 2009.
The faculty provides undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture, urban planning, and design, with access to workshops and research laboratories.
The school trained the majority of architects in Minas Gerais until the 1980s and initiated most architecture programs across the state.
