The former State Transport Department building spans nine thousand square meters across four floors, making it the largest structure in the Praça da Liberdade complex.
The building, designated as a heritage site in 1977 by Iepha-MG and in 1994 by Belo Horizonte Municipality, features Belgian cast iron stairs and granite steps.
The structure transforms into the Cemig Pinacoteca Art Gallery and Cultural Heritage Center, dedicating spaces to regional cuisine, crafts, and African-Brazilian traditions.
Located in central Belo Horizonte, the building houses archives and a library on the ground floor, with administrative offices occupying the fourth floor.
The building incorporates an innovative Belgian cast iron staircase system, which represented advanced engineering methods during its construction period.

Oscar Niemeyer shaped Brazilian modernism with his concrete constructions featuring bold geometric forms. These works embody a modernist approach favoring concrete structures, geometric volumes, and natural light integration.
