Quilombo dos Luízes, Quilombo community in Grajaú district, Belo Horizonte, Brazil
The Quilombo dos Luízes spans 2,300 square meters and contains 30 houses where approximately 80 residents maintain their ancestral traditions.
Established in 1895 during the construction of Belo Horizonte, this quilombo traces its origins to the founding couple Maria Luiza Luiza and Vitalino.
Members of the community, ranging from fourth to seventh generation descendants, preserve African Brazilian customs through regular gatherings and traditional practices.
Visitors can participate in educational programs and community workshops that showcase the quilombo's cultural heritage throughout the year.
The Municipal Government of Belo Horizonte officially recognizes this urban quilombo as a protected cultural site within the modern city landscape.
