Belo Horizonte Aquarium

The Belo Horizonte Aquarium is a public facility within the Zoological Garden displaying both freshwater and saltwater life side by side. It contains over 40 enclosures housing more than 700 aquatic species from various regions, including a lake stocked with carp.

The facility opened in 2010 as part of a broader initiative to promote environmental conservation in Brazil, particularly regarding water resources. Its establishment reflected growing interest in nature preservation throughout the region.

The venue is located in the Pampulha district along Avenida Otacílio Negrão de Lima and welcomes visitors daily. You should wear comfortable shoes since you will spend considerable time walking through the different exhibition areas.

The facility features special zones called aquaterras where visitors can observe how water and land naturally interact with each other. These areas are rarely found in other facilities and provide a distinctive view of ecological processes.
