Ponte General Dutra, Road bridge in Campos dos Goytacazes, Brazil
Ponte General Dutra is a road bridge spanning the Paraiba do Sul River in Campos dos Goytacazes. It features a curved metallic arch structure that carries two lanes of traffic between the city and routes toward Vitoria.
The first bridge was built between 1954 and 1957 during Juscelino Kubitschek's time in office. A flood damaged it severely in 2007, leading to a complete replacement in 2008.
The bridge serves as a testament to Brazilian engineering capabilities, representing a crucial connection point between major cities in the southeastern region.
The bridge has two lanes for one-way traffic and is part of the main BR-101 route. When crossing, expect a straightforward passage with good visibility along the span.
Unlike the original structure, the current bridge has no central pillars rising from the water. The arch design was specifically planned to better resist future flooding.
