Pampulha Modern Ensemble, Architectural complex in Pampulha, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The Pampulha Modern Ensemble combines concrete buildings, gardens, and an artificial lake, forming an integrated architectural landscape around the Pampulha area.
Mayor Juscelino Kubitschek commissioned architect Oscar Niemeyer to design this modernist complex, which was completed in 1943 as a leisure destination.
The Saint Francis of Assisi Church features distinctive tile murals by Candido Portinari, while Roberto Burle Marx designed the surrounding gardens.
Visitors can access multiple buildings including the Art Museum, which houses 1,600 Brazilian contemporary artworks, and the Casa do Baile cultural center.
The structures incorporate curved concrete forms and innovative engineering solutions that established new standards for Brazilian modernist architecture.
