Praia da Costa Dourada, Beach in Mucuri, Brazil

Praia da Costa Dourada is a beach with red cliffs reaching about 15 meters high and golden sand meeting the Atlantic Ocean. The coastline extends across several kilometers with varied areas to explore along the shore.

The area received environmental protection status in 1999 through local legislation. This designation safeguarded the coastal landscape from excessive development.

The beach is a postcard of Mucuri and part of the Costa Dourada area, protected since 1999 as an environmental protection area (APA) by municipal law. Its name comes from the golden colour of the sand, and the surrounding restinga vegetation and red cliffs frame the two streams that reach the sea here.

The beach lies far from Mucuri's town centre, in the southern part of the municipality's 45 km of coastline, closest to the village of 31 de Março and the border with Espírito Santo. Access is by road from Mucuri; the neighbouring beaches to the north are Coqueiros and do Domingo, and to the south Dois, dos Lençóis, Caçimba do Padre and Riacho Doce.

The beach lies in the Área de Proteção Ambiental de Costa Dourada, created by municipal law in 1999 to protect a stretch of coast that also takes in neighbouring beaches. Its red cliffs rise more than fifteen metres above the sand, and the beach sits close to the 31 de Março settlement and the Bahia–Espírito Santo state line.
