Complexo Penitenciário Anísio Jobim, Correctional facility in Manaus, Brazil.
Complexo Penitenciário Anísio Jobim is a correctional facility in Manaus composed of multiple buildings spread along the BR-174 highway on the city's outskirts. The complex contains separate areas for inmates held under different security levels, from semi-open to maximum security conditions.
The facility was established in 1982 during José Lindoso's administration as a penal institution. It evolved from its original agricultural colony status into a comprehensive penitentiary complex under Governor Amazonino Mendes in 1999.
The prison bears the name of Manoel Anísio Jobim, a prominent judge who served in the Amazonas court system starting from 1942.
The facility is located on Manaus's outskirts and is not open to public visits or tours. Access is restricted and visitors should not expect to enter the grounds without official authorization from authorities.
The January 2017 incident resulted in the escape of 200 inmates and required substantial security measures involving multiple law enforcement agencies to restore order.
