Cemitério Santa Isabel

The Santa Isabel Cemetery features white mausoleums built on natural rocks, aligned horizontally along the slopes of Serra do Sincorá mountain range.

Established in 1855 during a cholera epidemic, the cemetery became a final resting place for diamond barons who brought foreign architects to design their tombs.

The cemetery architecture combines Catholic temple designs with influences from medieval styles, reflecting the religious beliefs of 19th-century Brazilian society.

Located at kilometer 15 of BA-142 highway, the cemetery offers visitor access to both flat and walled sections containing historical burial structures.

The white tombs emerge from the rocky terrain against green vegetation, creating a distinct visual pattern visible from the 1208-meter Morro do Cruzeiro viewpoint.
