The Church and Santa Casa da Misericórdia combines religious architecture with museum exhibits, featuring baroque portals and views over the Bay of All Saints.
Founded in 1549, this institution maintained a monopoly on burials in colonial Bahia and operated the Hospital da Caridade throughout the 17th century.
The museum collection contains 3,800 pieces, including furniture, religious art, sacred imagery, and artifacts from the former hospital's operations.
The Jorge Calmon Memory Center maintains separate archival records and a library documenting the institution's role in Salvador's development.
In 1652, the Santa Casa received a slave-holding plantation called Fazenda Saubara, which provided economic support for its charitable activities.
