Statue of Father Cícero, Religious monument in Juazeiro do Norte, Brazil
The 27-meter statue of Father Cícero stands atop Horto Hill, offering panoramic views of Juazeiro do Norte and the Araripe Plateau.
Sculptor Armando Lacerda created this concrete monument in 1969, which replaced a Timbauba tree where Father Cícero used to meditate.
The statue receives 2.5 million annual visitors who come to honor Father Cícero, a religious leader central to northeastern Brazilian Catholic traditions.
The monument welcomes visitors daily from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with facilities including restrooms and resting areas for pilgrims.
Local vendors at the base of the statue offer religious artifacts and traditional items, continuing a practice that began with the monument's inauguration.
