Bayeux

Bayeux is a municipality in northeastern Brazil located directly beside the state capital João Pessoa. The Presidente Castro Pinto International Airport, which serves the wider region, operates within its boundaries.

The municipality was renamed from Barreiros to Bayeux in 1944 to honor the liberation of the French town bearing the same name during World War II. This change connected the local identity to a major international event of that era.

The people of Bayeux, called baienenses, celebrate local festivals featuring traditional music and dance rooted in northeastern Brazil. These gatherings show how deeply the community is connected to its regional customs and way of life.

The area is flat and easy to navigate, located right beside João Pessoa with good road connections. Visitors can easily reach the nearby capital while exploring smaller local spots.

The town shares borders with João Pessoa and Santa Rita and sits within the Mata Paraibana mesoregion, an important geographic zone. This central location makes it a junction point between different regional areas.
