Hotel Globo, Historic hotel building in the Old Town, João Pessoa, Brazil.
Hotel Globo is a three-story building on São Frei Pedro Gonçalves Square that blends Neoclassical, Art Nouveau, and Art Déco design elements on its facade and interior. The structure displays architectural details from multiple design movements of the early 20th century.
The building was constructed in 1929 by hotelier Henriques Siqueira as the city's first luxury accommodation. It introduced modern conveniences like in-room telephones and bathrooms that were virtually unknown in João Pessoa at that time.
The building hosted elaborate social gatherings and formal celebrations during the 1930s, when it served as the epicenter of high society life in the city. Today it remains a symbol of that prosperous era in the Old Town's identity.
The building now functions as a cultural center and art gallery with free admission to the public. It sits in the heart of the historic district, making it easy to reach on foot when walking through the Old Town.
From its garden space, visitors can observe the Sanhauá River and watch sunsets over the former port area of Varadouro. This view connects the building's setting to the city's waterfront heritage.
