Mostert's Mill, Historic windmill in Mowbray, Cape Town, South Africa.
The white stone and brick tower mill reaches 21 feet in height with a thatched roof cap that rotates to capture wind direction.
Built in 1796 on Welgelegen Farm, this structure represents the first privately owned mill in Cape Colony after British occupation ended Dutch control.
The mill demonstrates traditional Dutch engineering methods through its four common sails operated by a tailpole system and stone grinding mechanisms.
The Friends of Mostert's Mill organization opens the site to visitors on the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 to 15:00.
Restored in 2024 following a fire, this facility remains the sole operational windmill in Africa south of the Sahara Desert.
