Pinelands, Garden city suburb in Cape Town, South Africa
Pinelands is a residential neighborhood in Cape Town's southern suburbs characterized by tree-lined streets, homes with thatched roofs, and spacious green spaces. The area spans across its northern section with a quiet, garden-like environment throughout.
The area evolved from Uitvlugt farm beginning in 1919 when Garden Cities Trust acquired the land and started building a planned residential district. This transformation marked the start of the neighborhood as it exists today.
The neighborhood maintains strict regulations on alcohol sales to the public, with only private clubs receiving special licenses to serve alcoholic beverages.
Two railway stations, Pinelands and Mutual, connect the area to the Metrorail network for public transit. The Oval sports grounds offer facilities for cricket and hockey.
The neighborhood follows Garden Cities planning principles based on Sir Ebenezer Howard's concept with natural elements and organized street layouts. This design philosophy continues to shape the area's harmonious appearance today.
