Footprints of Dinosaurs, Prehistoric trace fossil site near Kalkveld, Namibia.
Footprints of Dinosaurs is a site with preserved dinosaur tracks in Etjo sandstone near Kalkveld. Two sets of tracks span about 30 to 40 meters and document the movements of prehistoric creatures from 200 million years ago.
The site was discovered in 1925 by Friedrich von Huene and received national monument status in 1951. This designation highlighted its importance for archaeological research in Namibia.
The location allows visitors to connect with prehistoric evidence and experience how southern African landscapes changed over geological time. The carefully maintained tracks show how these creatures moved through this area long ago.
The site is located on a farmstead and charges an entrance fee, with camping and accommodation options available. Visitors should ask locally about which facilities are available and how to best reach the tracks.
Two different prehistoric species left their marks at this location, showing a variety of movement patterns. The different sizes and forms of the impressions reveal the diversity of creatures that once inhabited this region.
