Tankwa Karoo National Park

Located in the Succulent Karoo biome, the park spans 1,436 square kilometers of desert landscapes with sparse shrubland and mountainous terrain.

The park expanded from 260 to 1,436 square kilometers in 1998 when Conrad Strauss sold his sheep farm land to South African National Parks.

The park territory holds traces of ancient Khoi settlements, preserving the history of indigenous communities who inhabited these arid lands.

Visitors can access the park daily from 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with accommodations available in rest camps and cottages at Roodewerf station.

The park records extreme temperature variations, with summer highs reaching 38.9°C and winter temperatures dropping to 5°C in this semi-desert environment.
