The Llandaff Oratory features traditional Catholic architectural elements including stained glass windows and religious symbols within its compact interior design.
Constructed by Maynard Mathews in memory of his son Llandaff, who died in 1925 while rescuing eight mining colleagues at Burnside Colliery.
The oratory's design draws inspiration from Cardiff Cathedral in Wales, incorporating elements of Welsh religious architecture into South African landscape.
The interior space accommodates exactly eight seats, making it necessary for larger groups to plan their visits accordingly.
Following the construction of the oratory, Maynard Mathews joined the Dominican order and became a priest on May 7, 1926.
