Otjikoto Lake, Karst lake in Oshikoto Region, Namibia.
This circular sinkhole lake spans 102 meters in diameter and reaches depths of 91 meters, featuring clear waters surrounded by limestone walls.
During World War I in 1915, German military forces deposited their equipment into the lake to prevent capture by approaching Allied forces.
The Herero people named this water body Otjikoto, which translates to deep hole in the Otjiherero language.
The lake sits 100 meters from the B1 main road, 20 kilometers northwest of Tsumeb, with designated areas for visitors.
Scientists have identified Otjikoto Lake as one of only two permanent natural lakes present throughout the entire country of Namibia.
