Grand Poubara Dam, Gravity dam near Franceville, Gabon
The Grand Poubara Dam rises 37 meters above the Ogooué River, featuring four Francis turbine-generators that produce hydroelectric power for the region.
The construction of Grand Poubara Dam started in November 2008 with an 84 million dollar loan from China and reached completion in August 2013.
The dam symbolizes the industrial advancement of Gabon's Haut-Ogooué Province, supporting local communities through enhanced electricity distribution and economic growth.
Located 15 kilometers south of Franceville, the dam generates 160 megawatts of power, primarily supporting the manganese mining operations in Moanda.
The structure diverts water around Poubara Falls through specialized turbines, establishing a reliable power source for Gabon's first manganese processing facility.
