Musonda Falls, Waterfall in Luapula Province, Zambia
Musonda Falls is a waterfall on the Luongo River in Luapula Province, Zambia. It sits about 650 feet (200 meters) downstream from a road bridge, making it easy to reach from the roadside.
The area around the falls was developed for small-scale hydroelectric use, and a power station was built near the site. That infrastructure remains in place today and can still be seen by visitors.
The path from the road to the falls is short but crosses rocky ground, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. Water levels rise noticeably in the rainy season, which changes how close you can get to the edge.
On sunny days, small rainbows sometimes appear in the mist above the rocks where the water hits the pool below. It is the kind of detail that is easy to miss if you walk past quickly.
