Kitulo National Park, National park in southern highlands, Tanzania

The Kitulo plateau extends across 412 square kilometers of montane grasslands and forests at an elevation of 2,600 meters between Mbeya and Njombe regions.

Tanzania established Kitulo as its fourteenth national park in 2005 to protect the area from international orchid trade, hunting, and logging activities.

Local populations refer to the park as Bustani ya Mungu, which translates to Garden of God due to its extensive flower displays during rainy seasons.

Visitors can reach the park through a 90-minute drive from Mbeya or a five-and-a-half-hour journey from Iringa, with November to April offering the best viewing conditions.

The park contains three plant species found nowhere else on Earth: Brachystelma kituloensis, Impatiens rosulata, and Pterygodium ukingense.
