Plage des Brisants

Plage des Brisants is a sand beach on Reunion Island's western coast that stretches between Saint-Gilles port and Ermitage beach. The water here is known for strong waves and powerful currents that shape what you experience when visiting.

The area developed around the port and became a center for water sports on Reunion's western shore. In 2007, a marine reserve was created to protect the coral reefs and sea life in these waters.

The beach regularly hosts international beach volleyball and tennis tournaments that bring athletes from around the world to compete. These events shape the local rhythm and show how important the location is as a sports hub for the region.

Swimming is not safe here due to currents and waves, so be aware of conditions before you go. You will find restrooms and showers behind the beachfront restaurant Le Sauvage where you can refresh yourself.

From July to September, you can watch humpback whales from the shore as they pass through these waters during the southern winter months. This makes the beach a special place to see these giant marine mammals in their natural habitat.
